The Grange Practice

The Montefiore Medical Centre, Dumpton Park Drive, Ramsgate, Kent, CT11 8AD

The Team

The Practice Team

Practice nurses, social prescribers, receptionists, secretaries and administrators assist the doctors.  Although the health visitors, midwives and district nurses  are not attached to the practice but all form part of the primary healthcare team.

Management

The Practice Manager is Julie Hill and may be contacted via the reception on 01843 572740 or by email – kmicb.thegrangepractice@nhs.net or by post to the main surgery address. She is always happy to hear any compliments, comments, suggestions or complaints. The practice also has a Reception Manager who is responsible for the admin team working on reception as well as the medical secretaries. Her name is Jules and she can be contacted via 01843 572740.  Any compliments or complaints regarding the reception team and medical secretaries should be addressed to Jules Elder-Mann, email address kmicb.thegrangepractice@nhs.net

Receptionists

Our receptionists are your first contact with the surgery. They will help you when you want to see a doctor or a nurse. They can liaise with other members of staff who can help you.

The reception staff have been asked by the doctors to enquire about the nature of your problem when requesting an appointment. We would appreciate your assistance as this will help us to provide a more timely response. If you do not wish to provide information about your problem, which is within your rights, this may delay our response time to your call.

We also have a dedicated team of prescription clerks who are on hand to deal with repeat prescriptions and medication queries.

Secretarial and Administration

The doctors’ day-to-day work is supported by medical secretaries who are available to speak to patients on a variety of issues such as referral queries, sick notes,  hospital appointments and medical reports. On occasions they can advise regarding transport queries.

Behind the scenes, members of our practice administrative staff carry out the work involved in the business of the practice.

Practice Nurses

Maddy Pointer, Marianne Hamlyn, Acey Aaronovitch  are our Practice Nurses, together with Emma Slowther and Gabby Logan our nurse associates.

Each of our nurses are trained in different aspects of patient care so our reception team will need to be aware of what the appointment is for so that you are booked with the correct person.

Nurse/Paramedic Practitioners

Hannah Ruby and Liam Connaughton are our nurse practitioners. Alison Keep is our Paramedic Practitioner. They are qualified to diagnose and treat minor illnesses and to prescribe medication without reference to a GP.  They are available for consultations where patients believe they have a problem that a nurse practitioner can help with.

Receptionists may sometimes ask patients who ask to see a doctor if they would prefer an appointment with the nurse/paramedic practitioner.  However, the final choice will always be with the patient.

Community Nurses

If you are confined to your home and need assistance, then your doctor can arrange for a community nurse (district nurse) to call. If you have been discharged from hospital but still need nursing treatment at home, then the hospital will usually arrange for a nurse to visit you.

Health Visitors

The health visitors are experienced registered nurses who have undertaken additional training in order to be able to offer advice, information and support on issues relating to the care of children from birth to five years old.

Your health visitor forms part of your primary healthcare team alongside your GP, community nursing service, community midwives and practice nurses.

Training Practice

The Practice is a Training Practice and trains doctors to be GPs.  It means that the practice has passed rigorous scrutiny and has satisfied high standards of performance; Dr. Maiden-Tilsen and Dr. Bannon are qualified GP Trainers. We are also part of the training placements program for medical students from the Canterbury Medical School.

In addition to this,  the practice also trains nurse associates, sonographers and practice nurses. We also currently have four members of staff working towards becoming advanced clinical practitioners.
